I have always loved reading, as child I would hide away and get lost in my favourite books. It’s a trait that I sincerely hope both of my girls will inherit, I find myself adding to their book collection every week hoping to entice them into the wonderful world of books. This week I got the opportunity to read my girls The Adventures of Brian: Brian and the Magic Night by Nicola Edwards, a perfect addition to their little library!
The Adventures of Brian is a series of books that uses the magic of story telling to explore different fears, worries or thoughts that our children may have. Having worked within the early years sector for many years, author and illustrator Nicola gained invaluable experience and understanding surrounding many issues that children sometimes face at this stage of their lives.
Brian and the Magic Night is an enchanting tale, taking it’s reader on a charming journey to a worry-free bedtime. Getting our children to sleep at night time isn’t always the easiest of tasks, this is often made more difficult by the anxieties they feel when night falls. Nicola has a wonderful way of reminding our little ones that they are safe, loved and that it’s ok to shut their eyes and sleep, with a little help from ‘sparkling puppy dust’ of course!

Throughout the book there are cute illustrations of Brian and his friends, ideal for bringing the tale to life. As my two are very young they helped to keep them interested in the story too. I find it admirable that Nicola is both an author and illustrator, a bundle of talent all rolled into one!
I love the concept of The Adventures of Brian series, all too often our children’s minds are plagued with unnecessary worry and these books offer a way to combat this through their imaginations. Brian and the Magic Night will be a regular bedtime story in our house, being the dog lover that I am it’s right up my street too. We can’t wait to find out what other escapades Brian has in store!
