Andrew Ashong
Archspace 22nd July 2018
Bringing ethereal layers of hypnotic and spiritual melodies
Andrew Ashong, ?hailing from the Forest Hill in South London, by way of Ghana, will be bringing his unique blend of jazz, soul and funk influences to create a show "dripping with rich melodies and great vibes" - Stamp the Wax.
Through his catchy riffs, laid back vocal lines, and searching bass lines, Ashong’s music sonically describes the diverse, melting pot of a city that he calls home. Ashong brings a fresh voice to soul music, that’s wise and sophisticated but also beautifully naive.
Ironically, ?Ashong? claims that he never wanted to be a singer, yet his song Flowers, the title track from his 2012 EP won him the award of ‘Gilles Peterson Worldwide Awards’ Track of the Year. He has been described as a “A hidden gem” by the Huffington Post, and The Guardian have compared his music to Shuggie Otis, Roy Ayers and Bill Withers, there’s no doubt that the acclaimed singer will be bringing his rare and stunning style with his full live band to Archspace. Expect a groove immersive, soul-baring and existentially searching show, that will have you swaying in deep thought and contemplation.
This will be a rare opportunity to see ?Andrew Ashong?, with a full live band, in a small intimate setting for you to be fully submerged in the majestic music that he creates.
