When you were little did you play with those little coloured white beads which you had to place carefully on a white pin board before persuading your parents to iron them and preserve your pattern for eternity? I remember spending hours playing with them and my daughter has recently started enjoying creating with them too.
It's funny how you perceive things differently when you are a child to when you are an adult. Thinking back I just remember creating interesting designs. As an adult I value the time M spends quietly concentrating at the table, but I am less keen on picking up all the dropped beads and burning myself on the creation after it's been ironed. Fortunately there are a few products available now which allow you to fuse patterns together without the need for an iron. One of these is eZee Beads by John Adams.
EZee Beads look similar to hama beads and they are used in the same way, but when you are finished with the pattern you spray your beads with water then leave it to dry. Once dry the beads are all stuck together. This is brilliant as it avoids accidental burns by absent minded Mummies (I am largely talking about myself here as I always forget to leave them long enough before touching). It removes the need to involve an adult at all as a child can use the water spray themselves. This has a further benefit, but lets keep it quiet: I might have once or twice knocked designs when taking them to be ironed, displacing a number of the beads and having to quickly reassemble it hopefully in the same design. I rather like that I don't have any responsibility with eZee Beads.
