Mr Handel’s Scholars
In celebration of its 15th anniversary, the Handel Singing Competition presents a special gala concert that promises to be a real highlight of this year’s London Handel Festival.
Join previous finalists of the Competition (including soprano Ruby Hughes and countertenor Iestyn Davies) as they perform an all-Handel programme that features an exquisite selection of solos, duets and orchestral pieces, including excerpts from favourites such as Messiah and Solomon. Whether you’re an established Handel aficionado or a complete newcomer to baroque music, this combination of a stellar cast and a spectacular programme of music makes this performance a must-see.
Monday 27 March, 7:30 pm, Cadogan Hall
The Great Mr Handel
In keeping with this year’s theme ‘Handel, the European in London’, the London Handel Festival presents a special 75th anniversary screening of the British film classic ‘The Great Mr Handel’.
Originally produced in 1942 to coincide with the 200th anniversary of the first performance of Handel’s Messiah, the film follows the composer’s life and work during his time in London, and focuses particularly upon the composition of his aforementioned masterpiece. As well as Wilfrid Lawson’s definitive performance as the titular composer, the film is also notable for its ground-breaking use of colour and lighting; so whether you’re a fan of Handel’s music or a lover of classic British cinema, this unique opportunity to see this film in the church attended by Handel himself is not to be missed.
Friday 7 April, 7:30 pm, Hanover Square
