Living and working in Manchester Emily Walmsley and Darren Hill had heard a lot of great things about Tattu so they decided to try it for themselves
I have to admit Asian cuisine is not my favourite, Darren however loves this style of food and insisted that we tried Tattu. I needn’t have worried, because Tattu is cool, modern and like no other Chinese restaurant you will ever experience.
The barman was knowledgeable and more than happy to explain the menu of unique drinks. Loving Pina Colada I selected Koko Tattu, the mix of rum, lychee and coconut was to die for! A man of habit, Darren chose spiced rum and ginger beer. Just what we both needed after a busy day at work!

Suitability refreshed, we were shown to the restaurant. It’s no secret the focal point is the full size cherry blossom tree and visually it does not disappoint. We were lucky enough to be seated directly underneath its stunning branches of real dried cherry blossom flowers – spectacular!
It was a tough task trying to select from the menu but having a bit of a ‘thing’ about lobster, I had to try the lobster and prawn toast. Darren chose chilli salt baby squid, which was great for sharing, even if it wasn’t his original attention! Both dishes were visually stunning, fresh and tasty.
On a glowing recommendation, I opted for caramel soy beef fillet with duck egg and sausage fried rice was the perfect side dish. Cooked to perfection and served with shitake mushrooms and seared asparagus, this was something completely different to anything we have ever eaten in a Chinese restaurant before.
Drinks finished, we couldn’t resist another cocktail. This time Darren opted for Smokey Black Barrel Old Fashioned and I went for Skull Candy. Both were served in unusual glasses with lots of dramatic dry ice – I am not over exaggerating when I say this might be the best cocktail experience we have had.
We couldn’t leave without trying the desserts and we picked yuzu parfait. When the plate arrived it really did have the ‘wow factor’. The refreshing citrus taste was complemented by edible flowers and lime gel and was the perfect end to our fabulous meal.
The Jones’ brothers from Blackburn are making waves on the modern Asian restaurant scene across the country for all the right reasons and am definitely a convert!
