This week we have been reading all about The Merciless Lion and the Cunning Hare by Corrine Riviere. A great bedtime story for slightly older kids than baby girl. I think at this age (16 months) she just loves the sound of my voice, and won’t understand what this story is about.
Nonetheless we love to have a look through the book together.

OUR REVIEW
Chapter 1 starts off with telling us the background of the lion. What he’s like and how he rules his kingdom. I don’t want to spoil the story too much for you, but the lion isn’t a nice king. He abuses his power. All the other animal are frightened of him. Every other day he holds a meeting to make sure no one is plotting against him. He really is a paranoid king. The lion would find any excuse for punishment.
When the hare comes along he’s a cheeky little thing and has an answer for everything!
As I read through the book, I did find some of the punishment that the lion threatens to inflict a little bit harsh for a children’s book, but it is written in a clever way. It’s one of those stories with a moral at the end, that makes you think. I’m not going to spoil it for you but the hare is a cunning creature!
I love the vivid illustrations on every other page, they really do jump out at you, so perfect in telling with the story.
I’m going to give The Merciless Lion and the Cunning Hare by Corinne Riviere 4 out of 5 stars.
