Appli-Quilting means tacking or gluing appliqué shapes to background fabric, sandwiching the quilt, including the wadding and backing, before quilting through all the layers. The technique can be used on long arm and domestic machines.
Non-fraying fabrics e.g. Ultra-suede and felted wool are the most suitable but cotton fabric using fusible web to secure the raw edges can also be used. The necessity for the correct tension and the choice of appliqué methods are explained well.
The most important aspect is the decorative stitching or quilting with ‘planned quilting paths’ creating added interest.
