My regular readers will know that I’m always on the look out for natural skin and household products which are kind and gentle to mine and my family’s skin- and excitingly, Neutral products tick all those boxes. Yay!
My son Oliver and I have particularly sensitive skin so I’m always careful when it comes to sampling skincare brands. I have to be. To be honest I usually prefer coconut oil to body lotions of any kind, but Neutral 0%’s Body Lotion exceeded all my expectations with both mine and Oliver’s dry and sensitive skin feeling soothed and moisturised immediately after use. After spreading some lotion on to Oliver’s arms he declared, ‘I love that cream Mummy, my arms feel so soft’.
The lotion smells fresh and clean and is now one of the products I reach for on a daily basis using it all over my body and on Oliver’s dry areas such as his elbows and shins.

A gentle formula that’s also been specifically developed for those easily irritated and who suffer with allergies, this is the first shower gel I’ve used in a long time that isn’t a gentle kids’ product (as others would often irritate) and it didn’t make me rash. Yay! None of the products did.

Colour Liquid Laundry Detergent – 1425ml

The kind folks at DFS recently gifted us a new sofa and coffee table, after our last sofa got rather wrecked (warning, never buy a cream sofa with a young family-what was I thinking?) -Oh and I then tore the 3 seater arm chair we had in the corner of the lounge, when I tried to remove the cover to wash it at Christmas. Now for my personal favourite recipe from the cookbook. The pea and halloumi fritters are so easy to whip up and they taste delicious too.
Bright green, these are tasty little fritters the whole family will love. You can fry them off and keep them wrapped and warm in the oven to serve all at once. Or, if your family is anything like mine, you can fry as many fritters as will fit in the pan at a time, immediately hurling them onto the gobbled-and-wanting-more plates.
Fry, eat, repeat. Especially nice served with the avocado and tomato salad on page 41!
Ingredients
350g frozen peas, defrosted
150g self-raising flour
3 eggs
80ml milk
100g halloumi cheese, coarsely grated
4 or 5 spring onions, thinly sliced
½–1 small bunch of dill or mint, finely chopped
Small bunch of parsley, finely chopped
Freshly ground black pepper
Vegetable or sunflower oil for frying
Lemon or lime wedges, to serve
Plain yogurt or sour cream seasoned with a little salt or chilli flakes
Method
Pulse the peas in a food processor until coarsely pureed.
Put the flour in a mixing bowl. Whisk in the eggs, milk, halloumi, spring onions, herbs and pea puree. Season with pepper: you shouldn’t need salt as the halloumi will be quite salty enough, but check at this point by frying a little of the mixture.
Heat a large non-stick frying pan over a moderate heat and add enough oil to coat the bottom of the pan. When the oil is hot, add tablespoonfuls of the batter and fry for about 2 minutes.
By this time the fritters should have firmed up and you can flip them over and fry the other side for 2 minutes. Work quickly in small batches until you have used all the batter.
Serve with lemon or lime wedges and the seasoned yogurt and chilli flakes if you like.

Time is so precious. While you can always make more money or buy more things, you just can’t make more time.
As I’ve gotten older and of course, had kids, time has never felt more sacred.

Plus, working late means I miss the marathon sessions of Suits, my husband and I like to watch together (the only telly we can agree on), so I’m making time-out more of a priority from now on, as I try and learn to wind down earlier more frequently.

The good intention is there but the reality of actually managing to squeeze it in is a different matter. Another day goes by and it remains on the list but out of reach.
If you can change the way you think about exercise, then you’re half way there. Getting fit and healthy isn’t the mountain you might perceive it to be. Here are my top five tips to help you towards an active and healthy future ….
Ditch the guilt. First up, stop feeling bad about it. There are so many things that need your attention, you simply can’t do everything. The key message with exercise is that something is better than nothing. Don’t aim for perfection. Just aim to do a bit more than you’re doing now, even if that’s just a tiny bit. Exercise is supposed to be fun, something to enjoy and not something to feel guilty about.
Take ten. The current recommended guidelines for exercise are that you should be doing at least 150 minutes of moderate activity a week. That’s exercise that makes you feel a bit out of breath; able to talk but not sing while you do it. Who has 150 minutes going spare? Not me that’s for sure. But here’s the thing – you can get health benefits from just a ten-minute burst. I often look at the clock and realise there are ten minutes until school pick up or ten minutes until my alarm clock goes off.
Realistically we can all find ten-minute windows if we seek them out. Ten minutes three times a day for five days and bingo! That’s 150 minutes. That’s the goal anyway but even if you only manage 40 minutes in the week that’s better than zero and over time that 40 minutes will significantly reduce the health risks associated with inactivity.
Be inventive. No one says that you have to put on Lycra and jump around to music while you exercise, equally, you don’t have to go running either (although I highly recommend it!) Physical activity is not just about sport, you definitely don’t have to be sporty to enjoy and benefit from it. It’s just about moving. Walking is perfect.
No matter many kids you have in tow, you can walk to a park, to the shops, to a café. It all counts. Family activities are perfect for helping all of you get some exercise. Be creative; go on a treasure hunt, have a scooter race, teach them to play cricket (don’t ask me to explain the rules). Anything that gets you moving. Are you desk bound? Stand up and sit down without using your arms, as many times as you can for 60 seconds and then tell me whether you’ve exerted yourself.
Put your printer across the room from your computer so you have to get up to collect your documents. Moving frequently and often is important in addition to getting those moderate activity exercise minutes during the week.
Get help. What’s stopping you from exercising? If it’s time, then use the tips above to help you fit it in. If it’s motivation, then ask a friend to set a goal with you and work together to reach it. If no one is up for it, then hop onto social media where there’s a wealth of supportive communities such as Run Mummy Run on Facebook and UKRunChat on Twitter. Being active is good for all of us, regardless of our medical issues and with advice, guidance and occasional medical intervention we can all participate and enjoy it.
Reap the rewards. Physical activity shouldn’t be seen as a chore. Once you’ve found something that you enjoy and want to do, it’s amazing how it scoots up your priority list and making time for it seems to become easier. When you realise how good it makes you feel, how it gives you energy and benefits all the other areas of your life, then you won’t want to be without it.
It might be hard to appreciate that right now but there will come a time when you wonder how on earth you managed to cope without it. You will also discover that you are capable of so much more than you ever thought you were. I promise.
